Will
using a compatible printer ink cartridge void my warranty?
Remember
the days when your printer manufacturer used to tell you that
using
a non OEM printer ink cartridge would void your warranty. Well
those days are over. In the US legislation has been passed
which allows you to use third party products which in this
case means you can use a compatible printer ink cartridge.
The legislation passed is known as the Magnuson-Moss
Warranty Improvement Act. This legislation states the
following:
United States Code Annotated
Title 15 Commerce and Trade
Chapter 50 Consumer Product Warranties
15 Section 2302
”c) No warrantor of a consumer product may condition his
written or implied warranty of such product on the consumer's
using, in connection with such product, any article or service
(other than article or service provided without charge under
the terms of the warranty) which is identified by brand, trade
or corporate name; except that the prohibition of this
subsection be waived by the commission if:
1) The warrantor satisfies the Commission that the warranted
product will function properly only if the article or service
so identified is used in connection with the warranted
product, and
2) the Commission finds that such a waiver is in the public
interest.”
What this means to you is that you can use a compatible
printer ink cartridge in your printer without voiding your
warranty. This can save you money as original printer ink
cartridges can be quite expensive. In some cases they can be
as much as the printer itself. Buying compatible
printer ink
cartridges
can do the same job but at a fraction of the cost.
