Have you ever thought about refilling your printer ink cartridges?
The process is easy once you know how but it is important that you follow the ink cartridge refill instructions as supplied to you with your refill kit. Ink cartridge refill instructions are specific to your printer brand so it is a good idea to follow them closely.
In general, the process of refilling ink cartridges is easy. The contents of refill kits are different depending on your printer brand but most will contain a bottle of ink, a syringe and a set of ink cartridge refill instructions.
Ensure that you refill your ink cartridge before it is completely empty. If your ink cartridge dries prior to refilling, the print heads will be clogged and print quality will be poor.
Read your ink cartridge refill instructions at least once before beginning the process. Ensure that you refill your cartridges over newspaper or a sink to take account of any possible spills.
Refill your ink cartridge slowly to prevent air bubbles from forming in the cartridge which will result in patchy prints. Tap the cartridge a few times after refilling to remove air bubbles.
Refill kits are a great way of saving money as you can refill your ink cartridge quite a few times before having to purchase a new one but ensure you follow your ink cartridge refill instructions to the letter.

Remanufactured toner cartridges can provide an alternative to OEM cartridges at a fraction of the cost.

Epson cartridges are well known for problems associated with refilling. This is because they are manufactured differently to most other brands of ink cartridges.
Epson cartridges contain a sponge and this is what generally causes problems when refilling as it fails to absorb the new ink.
The biggest problem associated with refilling Epson cartridges is injecting the ink too quickly. This can cause air bubbles in the cartridge so be patient and take your time. You can avoid a lot of problems by refilling your Epson cartridges while they still have about 50% of ink left in the cartridge.
Once you have refilled the cartridge let it sit for an hour. Some say to let it sit for up to a day to enable the sponge to absorb the ink as well as allow for the release of any air bubbles which may have formed. In both cases, ensure that you do not leave your printer without a cartridge as the print head can dry up. Keep a second filled cartridge on hand to use between refills. Once the cartridge is back in your printer, run a few cleaning cycles to get the ink flowing.
If you find that despite the cartridge being refilled the printer still recognises it as being empty then you probably have one of the newer models of printer. The newer Epson cartridges contain a chip which prevents refilling of cartridges. There are however a number of software and hardware tools available which can reset the chip.

Tip No 1:
Don’t let your ink jet cartridges go empty. Fill them up while they are still half full. Once your ink jet cartridges are empty it is very easy for them to dry up and this can ultimately ruin the cartridge.
Tip No 2:
When refilling your ink jet cartridges ensure that you do so on newspaper, paper napkins or old rags. Preferably it should be done over a sink. We all know how difficult printer ink is to remove from clothes so take the time to prepare the surface beforehand. Filling an ink jet cartridge is not difficult but there is always the chance that spills will occur. You might even want to wear gloves as ink stains on the skin can be stubborn to remove.
Tip No 3:
Don’t fill your ink jet cartridges too quickly. Ink cartridges that are filled too quickly can cause air bubbles which can stop your cartridge from working. Take your time and slowly fill the cartridge. Tap it a few times to reduce any air bubbles that may have formed. Leaving the cartridge for a few hours or even overnight will also help to release air bubbles.
Tip No 4:
Don’t overfill your ink jet cartridges. Follow the manufacturers instructions closely as overfilling can cause leakage and poor quality streaked and smudged prints.
Tip No 5:
Be a little wary of so called ‘universal’ refill kits. ‘Universal’ is meant to refer to printer ink that is suitable for any brand of printer. These universal refill kits may work for some ink jet cartridges but not for all. You may be lucky and hit one that suits your printer but then again you may not. Look for refill kits specifically targeted to your printer.
Tip No 6:|
Ensure you buy your refills from trusted merchants on the internet.
