Remanufactured printer cartridges are empty original cartridges, from companies such as HP, Lexmark, Canon or Epson, that have been cleaned thoroughly and then refilled with printer ink. These printer cartridges are usually then tested and approved to ensure that they provide the same performance as a new cartridge.

These printer cartridges must meet OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) specifications. In other words, they have to meet the original manufacturer’s standards in order to make the grade.

So just what are the advantages of using remanufactured printer ink cartridges? The price would have to be a major factor. These printer cartridges can be significantly cheaper than new non-recycled printer cartridges.

Another important advantage would be the fact that these printer cartridges have been recycled. This must make a huge difference to the environment over time. One can only imagine the number of empty printer cartridges that have been thrown out over the years.

A word of warning however – ensure that if you choose to buy remanufactured printer cartridges that you study the market carefully. Unfortunately even though standards are in place some companies do not necessarily follow them so you may end up buying inferior merchandise. Look for a quality merchant who sets high standards in their work practices such as the merchants on our Shop 4 Printer Ink page.

The right printer ink is vitally important to the quality of your prints. Buying inferior or low-grade ink cartridges just because they are cheap are a recipe for disaster. Poor quality ink cartridges will not only provide you with poor quality images but they can also damage your printer.

Buying OEM ink cartridges is a great way of ensuring that you are buying good quality printer ink for your printer. OEM cartridges are ink cartridges that have been created by the manufacturer of your printer. Unfortunately the cost of these cartridges is often very expensive.

With this in mind, many people look for cheap alternatives in order to save money. Unfortunately, many buy inferior products that just don’t provide the print quality they are expecting. This may include smudged prints, lines through the page and uneven colors.

When buying ink cartridges, ensure that you avoid universal cartridges. These cartridges state that they can be used for all printer brands. Generally, each printer uses a specific type of ink and using a universal ink cartridge could damage your printer. This is because manufacturers use different ink viscosity for different printers and a universal cartridge has a standard ink viscosity. Whether you buy OEM, remanufactured or compatible cartridges, ensure that you buy the cartridge which is specific to your printer brand.

Buying cheap does not have to mean buying inferior products. Good quality ink cartridges can be found online and at discount prices.

The earliest versions of ink jet printers and their ink cartridges used a print head that contained the ink nozzles and the elements that heated and fixed the ink. The print head was separate from the printer ink, making it easy to change the ink. A fairly common occurrence was for one of the ink jet nozzles to become clogged with dry printer ink or dust, resulting in smearing or just not printing from that jet. While the nozzle could be cleaned, more often than not, it was easier to replace the printer head than it was to clean it.

Since the mid-90s, most printers use an ink cartridge that contains the printer ink, the thermal head and all the parts needed to actually deliver and fix the printer ink on the paper. If a print nozzle in the ink cartridge becomes clogged, all that’s usually necessary is to carefully wipe it clean (though most manufacturers recommend that you not touch the actual print surface). It’s far less expensive to replace the print cartridge than it was to replace the print head if that happens.

Printer manufacturers reasoned that since the part of the printer was most likely to wear out, it made sense to replace the printer head every time you replace the ink cartridge. The inclusion of the print head in the ink cartridge is part of the reason that that ink cartridges are so expensive – especially if bought directly from the manufacturer. In many cases, manufacturers sell the actual printer at cost or even at a loss, counting on the sale of supplies for their profit.

The companies can count on your business for supplies because ink cartridges are designed specifically to fit a particular model (or line) of printers. Generally, the ink cartridge that fits your Canon printer will not fit your Hewlett Packard printer. There are ways around that built in profit margin, though, and they include ‘compatible ink cartridges’, remanufactured ink cartridges and ink cartridge refill kits.

Compatible ink cartridges are  made by third-party distributor that are designed to fit printers made by one of the major manufacturers. They’re brand new with all new parts, and are manufactured to meet the specifications of OEM (original equipment manufacturer) parts. Think of them as ‘designer knockoffs’.

Remanufactured ink cartridges are made from OEM ink cartridges. They are disassembled, inspected, reassembled and refilled, then resold at considerably lower prices than new ink cartridges.

To ensure that your Epson inkjet cartridges provide optimum performance ensure that you keep them in the original packaging until you are ready to install them. Removing Epson inkjet cartridges from the packaging or from the printer itself before you are ready to replace, clean, or store them, may give reduced quality.

Always use proprietary Epson inkjet cartridges to ensure that your Epson printer gives you the best results. Epson inkjet cartridges contain quick drying, acid free printer ink that provides high image, quality printing, with superior resistance to bleeding and smudging on all media types. These features apply to both color Epson inkjet cartridges and black Epson ink cartridges.

All Epson inkjet cartridges contain the correct ink for the specific model of printer. Since each ink is produced differently for each Epson model be sure that you always use the correct Epson printer ink.

If you are looking for cheap cartridge options then look no further. The best place to buy cheap and discount cartridges is the internet. Online printer ink suppliers are able to provide you with reduced prices because of their low overheads.

If you want to purchase a cheap cartridge to replace your empty one then take a look at what is available on the internet. You can grab a bargain. Our guide will explain the difference between the various cartridge types available today.

1. Remanufactured cartridges - are used OEM cartridges. They are thoroughly checked for faults and if there are no problems the cartridges are cleaned and refilled with fresh printer ink. Once refilled the cartridges are thoroughly tested to ensure they meet the highest standards. If you are after a cheap cartridge alternative then remanufactured cartridges are a great option.

2. Compatible cartridges -are another cheap cartridge alternative. Compatible cartridges are new cartridges that have been manufactured to meet the same standards as an OEM cartridge. They are what you might call generic cartridges.

3. Refill Kits – are a third option. Refill kits consist of a bottle of printer ink and a syringe to enable you to inject the printer ink into an empty cartridge. It is one of the cheapest alternatives to purchasing an OEM cartridge. Each of these options provides you with a cheap alternative to high priced ink cartridges.
